Job Description

Finsch Diamond Mine

Finsch Diamond Mine is located in the town of Lime Acres which is situated 160km north west of Kimberley and 109km south of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.

Engineering Overseer (Outside Services)
The incumbent will coordinate and control activities in the building, construction and engineering maintenance sections for relevant areas in and around the Lime Acres Village and Finsch Diamond Mine where applicable.
Tasks and responsibilities
: • Develop and execute a maintenance programme, taking cognisance of anticipated projects and scheduled upgrade and replacement requirements for houses and infrastructure • Manage maintenance contractors, ensuring high standard of work within set time limits • Control standard procedures to ensure that safety and legislative requirements are met, monitoring adherence to the procedures and taking remedial action as appropriate • Design and examine drawings as appropriate, ensuring that proposed structures meet specifications and standards • Coordinate the planning, control and implementation of projects, taking cognisance of time/budgetary constraints, by carrying out feasibility studies and complying with the 5 x PMI phases ie Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring & Controlling and Close Out • Perform quality control checks and handover inspections to ensure that standards/specifications are met • Ensure good customers relations.

Minimum requirements: • Matric/Grade 12 complete with a N3 Engineering Certificate with Maths and Science • Engineering Trade Certificate preferably electrical but mechanical will also be considered (obtained during a formal apprenticeship programme – Section 13 or 26D)** • Advanced Diploma: Mechanical/Electrical Engineering • 6 years’ appropriate civil/construction/engineering experience of which 3 years must be supervisory • Project Management qualification will be an advantage • Valid driver’s licence (preferably own reliable transport) • Computer literate (MS Office package) • Knowledge of building construction practices and relevant legislation – please indicate on CV • Knowledge and application of building machinery and technology – please indicate on CV • Knowledge of Planned Maintenance system – please indicate on CV • Sound knowledge of MV Sub-stations and SLD reticulation – please indicate on CV • Sound knowledge of potable and raw water pipeline layouts c/w pumping systems – please indicate on CV • Knowledge of sewerage works flow system – please indicate on CV.

** Candidates holding a QCTO (Section 26D) Trade Test, where the learning route is not specified on the Certificate, must submit the following: Statement of results issued by an accredited MQA trade test centre as well as evidence of training conducted at a technical training centre (eg Portfolio of Evidence, Logbooks). Should these documents not be submitted the application will not be considered. Candidates holding S28 Trade Test Certificates from non-Mining Sector centres will not be considered.
