Umfolozi Sugar Mill (Pty) Ltd, situated in Zululand, 25km from St Lucia and the Umfolozi/Hluhluwe Game Reserve, near the town of Mtubatuba.

Compliance Manager (MM)
An exciting opportunity exists for a smart, passionate, attention to detail person who makes things happen through their superior knowledge and leadership skills. Reporting to the Production Director, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for the management of Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Food Safety Assurance, USM Security matters, and Services Contractors. The incumbent will also be responsible for managing USM’s risk and preserving the Company’s integrity by making sure it complies with relevant statutory requirements. He/she must be the driver to implement related continuous improvement plans and programmes.
Requirements: • 5 years’ Management experience in a manufacturing environment
• Safety, Health, Environment and Business Administration (SHEBA) or any other suitable tertiary risk management qualification (NADSAM/SAMTRAC) • Advanced training courses on Food Safety Management / Industrial Occupational Hygiene/Fire Prevention and Protection/Industrial Environmental Management • Working experience on OHS Act, WCA, COID Act as well as NOSA systems, programmes and extensive knowledge of ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 will be advantageous.
Key performance areas: • Develop and oversee risk-related compliance programmes • Periodically audit and evaluate the efficiency of related control systems • Keep abreast of related and applicable regulatory developments • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies • Keep and maintain records of all related documents • Periodically revise risk assessments to identify hidden risks or non-conformity • Collaborate with line managers to monitor enforcement of standards • Liaise with government departments, local authorities, inspection and/or auditors regarding related statutory compliance, accreditations, licences and permits • Manage on-site contractors to ensure compliance with related legislation and standards.

Risk Control Officer (JM)
A vacancy exists for a self-motivated, attention to detail, team player, who makes things happen through their strong interpersonal skills. This person should have a sound background of occupational health & safety practices, industrial environmental management, food safety practices and security management in a quality-orientated work environment. The incumbent needs to be passionate about high standards and must be a driver to implement continuous improvement programmes and systems.
Requirements: • 5 years’ Safety Management experience in a manufacturing environment • Working experience on OHS Act, WCA/COID, NOSA standards • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (NQF Level 5 or equivalent) • Advanced training courses in industrial occupational hygiene as well as fire prevention and protection will be advantageous.
Key performance areas: • Ensure Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental statutory compliance • Ensure implementation, adherence to and maintenance of SHE protocols • Conduct internal SHE audits on SHE systems and report findings • Develop and conduct SHE inductions and hazard awareness campaigns • Facilitate and assist with hazard identification and risk assessments • Identify SHE training needs: Plan, schedule and conduct safety-related training • Carry out and assist with accident investigations • Administer incident investigations, legal documents and registers • Keep records, report and present monthly safety statistics and trends • Develop and implement accident prevention programmes • Assist managers with contractor and construction SHE management on site • Care for fire detection and fire addressing system and equipment.
