Job Description

The Research and Development Operations Department has a vacancy for a Manager: Weapons System, at Alkantpan, located near Prieska in the Northern Cape. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualification and experience requirements set out below.

Manager: Weapon System
Job Grade: D4

The Manager holds the responsibility for operational planning and management of weapon systems, store management and security management including aspects such as management of employees and budgets. The responsibility of the Manager is to ensure that the strategic goals and objectives of Alkantpan Test Range is reached according to time scales and milestones.
Critical performance areas: • Formulate and implement divisional strategies and plans and align these strategies and plans with the departmental and corporate objectives • Manage the budget of the division in a cost-effective manner • Recruit, interview, select and maintain well-qualified staff • Perform performance management of the team by contracting performance contracts, monitoring performance and providing feedback on performance to all team members • Perform succession planning for all key positions in the division in order to ensure business continuity • Facilitate effective corporate governance business practices • Develop, implement and maintain the risk management plan of the division • Manage and improve the services/products provided to the customer base • Develop policies and practices that affect the entire function/department within the framework of the organisation’s policy and ensure procedures and instructions support the strategic goals and objectives of the Division • Develop and maintain constructive relationships between stakeholders (internal and external) in order to promote synergy and build a productive business environment • Manage the remuneration of employees in the best interest of both the employee and the organisation by ensuring that team members are remunerated in a cost-effective and fair manner in relation to their contribution • Manage weapon-related projects to ensure a serviceable weapon system according to the requirement and specification from a client (local and foreign) • Manage as part of a team the Business Management System to ensure the compliance with ISO quality system • Manage building projects within own division to ensure compliance with the tender process as well as specifications • Ensure that the security clearance for each member is submitted at least one year prior to the expiry date • Develop and maintain store management procedures and work instructions to ensure a cradle to grave approach regarding capital assets • Develop and maintain security procedures and work instructions related to company policy to ensure a secure Division 24/7/365 • Ensure that the Facility Security Clearance for the division is maintained.
Requirements: • BSc Eng or BEng (Mechanical) • Postgraduate degree and/or Business Management degree will be an advantage • 9-12 years’ experience which must include experience at supervisory/team leader level • Experience in weapon operations and maintenance of weapon systems • Experience in project management • Knowledge of artillery, armour and infantry weapon systems • Knowledge of project management, security management, logistic support and asset management.                                                    (Ref. 9912658)
