This role will see you manage the installation and performance of the Refractories at the EAF, AOD vessels and CCM ladles, as well as monitor and continuously improve the life span of the refractories (while adhering to a QCDSM (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety and Moral) framework and ensuring that business KPIs are met and improved).
You will oversee the three shift refractory teams in terms of: • Installation: Ensuring that all vessels are available and relined in time and acting as Columbus link with contractors responsible for physical installation • Testing different refractory materials, conducting investigations and reporting accordingly • Continuously managing quality improvements projects • Monitoring the life span of the refractories and recommending improved processes • Safety and quality compliance within the team in accordance with the relevant standards and cost-effectively executing all refractory-related
In order to apply, you will need a BSc or BTech (preferably BEng) in Metallurgy, plus knowledge of the processes and techniques of metallurgy, thermodynamics, pyrometallurgy and refractories, as well as refractory installation procedures and
techniques. 5 years’ experience in refractories management is needed, while knowledge of steel production processes will be an added advantage. Our ideal candidate will be able to handle stress, shows excellent attention to detail when dealing with high volumes of data and is a proactive, self-driven team player who is able to work independently. High quality and safety standards are important. Strong leadership and management skills are non-negotiable.
