Finsch Diamond Mine

Finsch Diamond Mine is located in the town of Lime Acres which is situated 160km north west of Kimberley and 109km south of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.
C & I Technician/Mechanician (Security) (Re-advertisement)
This position requires an individual to maintain, service, repair electronic equipment, networks, radio and security systems within the mining and plant areas as described.
Tasks and responsibilities: • Perform security-related activities to equipment and systems, hardware and software • Monitor and evaluate technology in order to ensure continuous improvement in the direct work environment • Investigate and diagnose problems and breakdowns to determine resource requirements and order spares • Maintain, install and repair Security Systems including access control, surveillance and associated security devices and peripherals • Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance work on all security equipment to comply with product technical specifications • Coordinate and monitor equipment availability to ensure adherence to production parameters and security requirements • Continuously analyse equipment efficiencies and recommend or implement improvements and change to maximise operations • Attend to the relevant administrative functions including record keeping and as-build diagrams • Install, test and modify new systems • Conduct fault-finding activities on access control, surveillance systems, networks and X-ray systems • Be responsible for door controller programming.
Minimum requirements: • Qualified Technician with National Diploma through T3/S4 with
3 years’ relevant experience OR2 NTC 6 (low current) with 3 years’ relevant experience OR • Trade Tested Mechanician## with 4 years’ relevant experience and relevant trade certificate ** • Sound knowledge of access control systems • Sound knowledge of IP surveillance system hardware and software and Ethernet networks • Computer literate (MS Office suite) • PSIRA registration will be advantageous • Valid driver’s licence.
##Candidates holding a QCTO (Section 26D) Trade Test, where the learning route is not specified on the Certificate, must submit the following: Statement of results issued by an accredited MQA trade test centre as well as evidence of training conducted at a technical training centre (eg Portfolio of Evidence, Logbooks). Should these documents not be submitted the application will not be considered. Candidates holding S28 Trade Test certificates from non-Mining Sector centres will not be considered.
Other skills/competencies: • Good verbal and written communication in English • Ability to use applicable hand and power electrical tools • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures • Ability to perform modifications and/or repairs on electronic equipment and systems and monitor equipment availability • Good communication skills • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks • Sound knowledge of computer systems and Ethernet networks • Sound knowledge of alarm systems as well as radios will be advantageous • Ability to work without supervision • Knowledge of optic fibre • Knowledge of power circuits AC and DC • Standby duties every second week (Ref. FIN298)
**Note: Candidates who are successful for appointment, but have not completed the National N Diploma: Engineering will be appointed at a C2T level as Mechanician until such time as they have obtained the required National N Diploma: Engineering.
