Finsch Diamond Mine
Finsch Diamond Mine is located in the town of Lime Acres which is situated 160km north west of Kimberley and 109km south of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.
Control Room Operator
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the efficient monitoring and control of the production process by allocating and managing resources (people and equipment) to attain production objectives.
Tasks and responsibilities: • Manage shift hand-overs • Plan activities according to production schedules and allocate resources as required • Coordinate and monitor the underground operation to ensure adherence to safety and emergency measures, production parameters and standards
• Communicate process information and changes to relevant stakeholders to minimise production delays – including initiating call-outs • Analyse underground efficiencies to recommend or implement improvements/changes to maximise the underground operation • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders of the production process to ensure operational optimisation
• Gather and analyse production information to compile reports according to departmental procedures/requirements • Ensure adherence to Security and SHE policies and procedures • Work shifts.
Minimum requirements: • Grade 12/N3 or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification
• Valid permanent Blasting Certificate for Scheduled Mines OR • Artisan with Engineering Trade Certificate with a recognised apprenticeship and 5 years’ post-apprenticeship experience in a mining/underground environment**
• Minimum of 5 years’ mining/underground experience is essential • Valid driver’s licence • Computer literacy is essential – must have proven performance and knowledge of Excel – please indicate on CV • Experience in Citect SCADA or similar.
**Candidates holding a QCTO (Section 26D) Trade Test, where the learning route is not specified on the Certificate, must submit the following: Statement of results issued by an accredited MQA trade test centre as well as evidence of training conducted at a technical training centre (eg portfolio of evidence, logbooks). Should these documents not be submitted the application will not be considered. Candidates holding S28 Trade Test certificates from non-Mining Sector centres will not be considered.
Skills and competencies: • Good verbal and written communication in English with people skills • Legal/operational compliance knowledge for underground operations • Strong operating and troubleshooting skills regarding all underground infrastructure • Technical problem-solving skills and decision-making ability in a fast changing environment.
