Metsimaholo Local Municipality is an employment equity employer, and seeks suitably qualified persons to fill the under-mentioned posts:
Directorate: Technical and Infrastructural Services
Senior Engineering Assistant: Water and Sewer
Salary: R367 255.97-R385 941.06 per annum (Post Level 04, subject to job evaluation) plus transport allowance based on 650km per month
Requirements: • A Matric plus a National Diploma in Civil Engineering • Preferably a qualified Civil Engineering Technician with at least 3 years’ experience in a mid- level managerial position (water and sewerage networks/maintenance and construction) • Computer literacy • The ability to read and write in at least English • The ability to read plans (water and sewerage networks) • At least a Code 08 driver’s licence (preferably Code 10) • Good knowledge of surveying and instruments • Good knowledge of basic mathematics • Good with figures • Good organising skills • The ability to plan work, be goal orientated and work independently • Motivated and honest • The ability to motivate other people and communicate effectively within the culturally diverse work environment • Good knowledge of and practical experience in the types of usage of all water and sewerage materials • Sound human relations • Sound communication, negotiation and presentation skills • Creative and analytical thinking • The ability to work under pressure.
Main duties: • Render assistance to Superintendents involved in daily organising, planning and execution of work related to construction and maintenance of water and sewerage networks • Plan work execution and assist Superintendents in meeting the established goals of the section • Train and supervise labour under his/her control to optimise work output • Attend to the personal safety aspects related to the jobs and that it is adhered to concerning employees and the public • Attend safety meetings and see to it that registers are kept up-to-date • See to the proper maintenance and use of tools and vehicles under his/her control • Undertake surveys on water and sewerage networks to compile maintenance programmes • Maintain water and sewerage networks • Undertake annual surveys on water and sewerage networks • Carry out estimates and re-order materials • Compile annual budgets • Prepare tender documents for work to be done by contractors • Be responsible for expenditure control in order to keep within budgetary limits • Implement basic procedures in order to monitor and control the total output of the section • Report to the Assistant Manager: Civil Engineering Services.
